Terms of service

Chessalto is operated by Vetrarbrautin ehf., Iceland. You can contact us at vetrarbrautin@vetrarbrautin.is.

These terms apply when you visit chessalto.com, create an account, or use a Chessalto app. By using Chessalto, you agree to these terms and our privacy policy.

If you cannot enter a binding agreement on your own, a parent or legal guardian must approve your use. If you use Chessalto for an organisation, you confirm that you can accept these terms for it.

Chessalto provides chess lessons, puzzles, review scheduling, opening practice, game imports, engine analysis, ratings, and progress tracking. Features may change as the product develops.

Keep your sign-in details secure and give us accurate account information. You are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to it.

Chessalto ratings and recommendations are training tools. They are not official chess ratings and do not guarantee a result in a game or competition.

Daily training and the guided path are free. Optional Premium subscriptions add the features listed on the pricing page. The price, currency, billing period, and tax are shown before you confirm a purchase.

Web subscriptions are sold and billed by Paddle as merchant of record. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Manage or cancel renewal through the subscription controls in Settings. Cancellation normally keeps access through the paid period; refunds or payment reversals may end access sooner.

For payment issues or refund requests, contact vetrarbrautin@vetrarbrautin.is or use Paddle's buyer support. Our refund policy, Paddle's buyer terms, and applicable consumer rights apply. Deleting your Chessalto account is not a substitute for canceling subscription renewal.

You keep ownership of PGNs, messages, and other content you submit. You give Chessalto a limited licence to store, copy, analyse, and display that content only as needed to provide and improve the service.

You must have the right to submit the content. Do not upload private information about another person without permission. When you connect a Chess.com or Lichess username, you ask Chessalto to retrieve public game data associated with that username.

You may not:

• break the law or violate another person's rights;
• try to access another account or restricted system;
• probe, overload, scrape, or disrupt the service;
• upload malware or use Chessalto to distribute harmful material;
• circumvent limits or security controls; or
• resell or copy substantial parts of Chessalto without permission.

Reasonable personal use, normal search indexing, and authorised testing are not prohibited by this section.

Chessalto's software, design, brand, lessons, and original content belong to Chessalto or its licensors. These terms give you a personal, limited, revocable right to use the service. They do not transfer ownership to you.

Some puzzles, game records, chess libraries, and other materials come from open or third-party sources under their own licences. Those licences continue to apply.

Chessalto connects with services such as Google, Clerk, Chess.com, and Lichess. Their own terms and privacy policies govern your direct use of them. Chessalto is not endorsed by or affiliated with those services unless we state otherwise.

We work to keep Chessalto accurate, secure, and available, but we cannot promise uninterrupted service or error-free chess content. The service is provided as available. You should keep copies of any game records you do not want to lose.

To the extent the law permits, Chessalto is not responsible for indirect or unforeseeable losses caused by use of the service. Nothing in these terms limits rights or remedies that cannot legally be limited, including mandatory consumer rights.

You can stop using Chessalto at any time and delete your account from Settings. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, threatens the service, or must be restricted by law. Where practical, we will give notice first.

We may update these terms as Chessalto changes. We will post the new terms, change the effective date, and give any notice the law requires. Icelandic law governs these terms, except where mandatory law in your country gives you additional protection.
